We have an urgent matter to call your attention to! ACA 7 – California’s latest attempt at repealing Prop. 209 (with its education provisions) is now at the State Senate Education Committee. The committee will hear and vote on ACA 7 on Wednesday, June 3rd. It is crucial that we voice our opposition against reenacting government preferences in education NOW!
On June 3rd, CFER Executive Vice President Gail Heriot will appear in front of the Senate Education Committee to testify against the bill. You can read more on our arguments against ACA 7 through Professor Heriot’s writing here and Wenyuan Wu's analysis here. We need your support to let the committee members know the disregard for racial preferences is broad-based. You can help by doing the following:
Attend the hearing in person at 9am on Wednesday, June 3rd at 1021 O Street, Room 2100, Sacramento, CA 95814. You can queue up to testify against bill after CFER gives our testimony.
Call members of the Senate Education Committee between now and June 3rd to register your opposition. Simply say your name and state your position against ACA 7.
With enough pushback from the public, the State Senate may hesitate to move such a controversial bill out of the legislature to the general ballot. Please take actions promptly to show the elected offices our unwavering support for equal protection!
Thank you in advance!

About Californians for Equal Rights Foundation (CFER):
We are a non-partisan and non-profit organization established following the defeat of Proposition 16 in 2020, with a mission to defend and raise public awareness on the cause of equal rights through public education, civic engagement and community outreach. In 1996, California became the first U.S. state to amend its constitution by passing Proposition 209 to ban racial discrimination and preferences. Prop. 209 requires that “the state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.” CFER is dedicated to educating the public on this important constitutional principle of equal treatment.
